What we don't collect

• We don't have user accounts, so we don't hold names, passwords or profiles.
• The site itself doesn't set any cookies.
• We don't run analytics scripts or show ads.
• We don't sell or share personal information.

What's stored in your browser

Some features save data in your browser's own storage on your device. This data isn't sent to us.

• My tanks (localStorage). Tanks you save, with their fish, water test results, maintenance tasks and notes. It stays until you delete it on the My tanks page or clear your browser's site data, and it won't appear on your other devices. A backup you download is saved on your device, and importing a backup reads the file in your browser without uploading it.
• Fish data cache (sessionStorage). A copy of our species list, so tools load faster as you move between pages. Your browser deletes it when you close the tab.

Plans in the stocking calculator and compatibility checker are kept in the web address, after the # sign, so you can bookmark or share them. Browsers don't send that part of the address to our server, but anyone you share the link with can see the plan (tank size and fish).

Some calculators and the fish list put your settings, such as tank size or a search word, in the address after the ? sign so you can share that view. If you reload the page or open a shared link, that part is sent to our host and can appear in its server logs. It holds tank settings and filters, not personal details.

Server logs at our host

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes standard request information when you load a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to filter bot traffic; it isn't used for advertising. Cloudflare may also show us summary traffic numbers, such as total visits and visitor countries. These are totals and don't identify you. Cloudflare handles this data under its own privacy policy.

Links to other websites

Species pages and guides link to the sources we used, and some pages link to shops such as Amazon. When you follow a link, the other site's own privacy policy applies. Amazon may use cookies to know that you came from FishFits, so it can credit a qualifying purchase to us. See our affiliate disclosure.

If you email us

If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to read and reply to your message and to fix anything you report. We don't add you to a mailing list or share your address. You can ask us to delete your messages at any time.

If this changes

If we add analytics, ads or any other service that collects data or sets cookies, we will update this page before it goes live, change the "last updated" date and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent first.

Children

FishFits is a general-audience site. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices and questions

You can delete saved tanks on the My tanks page or clear all site data in your browser settings at any time. For any privacy question or request, email [email protected].
